A Lesson on Office Etiquette - All Managers Should Follow!!!

When you are a manager you are supposed to lead by example, unfortunately there are quite a few of them who don’t.   So it’s not just our employees who need to be taught about office etiquette.  Our managers need to learn how to use proper office etiquette too. The manager who has problems with their employees following office etiquette, needs educating too.

Here are a few tips for the manager who needs a lesson in office etiquette:

  • Treat employees, coworkers, and senior management in a polite and professional manner at all times.

  • Never yell, argue, or discipline an employee in public. (In front of other employees/staff/management/visitors)

  • Do not curse at anyone, at anytime. (Manage by example)

  • Always speak and write in a polite and professional manner. (Free from slang and cursing)

  • Dress appropriately and professionally at work. (This includes work related functions off site)

  • Be a manager who is available to your employees. (Answer questions, train, and mentor them)

  • Acknowledge employees when they do a good job.

  • Be responsible and respectful of other people’s time. (Arrive to work and appointments on time, notify correct individuals if you are going to be delayed/late)

If you are a manager who needs to brush up on office etiquette, the suggestions above may just benefit you. Office Etiquette - All Managers Should Follow ...Says Sanjay Kapoor : Director & CEO, Iris-Corp
